Duncan has died at the age of 54 on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 in a Los Angeles hospital after nearly two months of treatment following a July 13, 2012 heart attack, his fiancee, the Rev. Omarosa Manigault, said.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Clarke Duncan's life will be celebrated with a public casket viewing and a private service next week.
Duncan spokeswoman Joy Fehily said Wednesday that the Oscar-nominated actor's casket will be on view from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hall of Liberty at Forest Lawn Memorial Parks and Mortuaries in Los Angeles. A private, invitation-only service will follow on Monday.
"The Green Mile" star died Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after failing to recover from a heart attack in July. He was 54.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Clarke Duncan was one big, irresistible jumble of contradictions.
His presence was formidable, even intimidating: The former bodyguard had a muscular, 6-foot-4 frame, but it was topped by the brightest of megawatt smiles.
His gravelly baritone was well-suited to everything from animated films to action spectacles, but no matter the role, a warmth and a sweetness was always evident underneath.
The prolific character actor, whose dozens of movies included an Oscar-nominated performance as a death row inmate in "The Green Mile" and box office hits including "Armageddon," ''Planet of the Apes" and "Kung Fu Panda," died Monday at age 54. And although he only turned to acting in his 30s, it's clear from the outpouring of prayers and remembrances he received across the Hollywood and sports worlds that his gentle-giant persona made him much-loved during that relatively brief time.
Duncan died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was being treated for a heart attack, said his fiancée, Omarosa Manigault, in a statement released by publicist Joy Fehily.
Duncan "suffered a myocardial infarction on July 13 and never fully recovered," the statement said. "Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date."
Tom Hanks, star of 1999's "The Green Mile" — the film that earned a then-little-known Duncan a supporting-actor nomination at the Academy Awards — said he was "terribly saddened at the loss of Big Mike. He was the treasure we all discovered on the set of 'The Green Mile.' He was magic. He was a big love of man and his passing leaves us stunned."
"I will miss my friend, Michael Clarke Duncan," comedian and talk-show host Steve Harvey said on Twitter. "What an incredible soldier in God's Plan." Other sad and shocked reactions came from a diverse field that included Dallas Mavericks basketball team owner Mark Cuban, actresses Alexa Vega, Niecy Nash and Olivia Munn, and former boxing champion Lennox Lewis.
In the spring of 2012, Duncan had appeared in a video for PETA, the animal rights organization, in which he spoke of how much better he felt since becoming a vegetarian three years earlier.
"I cleared out my refrigerator, about $5,000 worth of meat," he said. "I'm a lot healthier than I was when I was eating meat."
Duncan had a handful of minor roles before "The Green Mile" brought him accolades and fame. The 1999 film, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, starred Hanks as a corrections officer at a penitentiary in the 1930s. Duncan played John Coffey, a convicted murderer with a surprisingly gentle demeanor and extraordinary healing powers.
Duncan's performance caught on with critics and moviegoers and he quickly became a favorite in Hollywood, appearing in several films a year. He owed some of his good fortune to Bruce Willis, who recommended Duncan for "The Green Mile" after the two appeared together in "Armageddon." Duncan would work with Willis again in "Breakfast of Champions," ''The Whole Nine Yards" and "Sin City."
His industrial-sized build was suited for everything from superhero films ("Daredevil") to comedy ("Talladega Nights," ''School for Scoundrels"). He could have made a career out of his voice work alone, with appearances in several animated and family movies, including, "Kung Fu Panda," ''Racing Stripes" and "Brother Bear." Among Duncan's television credits were "The Apprentice," ''Two and a Half Men," ''The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and a new series, "The Finder."
Born in Chicago in 1957, Duncan was raised by a single mother whose resistance to his playing football led to his deciding he wanted to become an actor. But when his mother became ill, he dropped out of college, Alcorn State University, and worked as a ditch digger and bouncer to support her. By his mid-20s, he was in Los Angeles, where he looked for acting parts and became a bodyguard for Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and other stars. The murder of rapper Notorious B.I.G., for whom Duncan had been hired to protect before switching assignments, led him to quit his job and pursue acting full-time.
Early film and television credits, when he was usually cast as a bodyguard or bouncer, included "Bulworth," ''A Night at the Roxbury" and "The Players Club."

Michael Clarke Duncan, who died in a Los Angeles hospital Monday at age 54, played many roles in his life — on screen and off. His sheer physicality could be intimidating — that is, until he flashed that super-sized smile.
He played bodyguards and murderers, kingpins and nice guys. His large, husky voice brought gravitas to cartoon characters and heavies, action films and comedies.
In real life, he was a bodyguard, too — for such celebrities as Will Smith and Jamie Foxx. But he could also turn on the charm as an award-show presenter, reality-show participant and fiance of reality-show starlet Rev. Omarosa Manigault.
"Michael has left us far, far too soon," said Frank Darabont, who directed Duncan in "The Green Mile." ''We lost a great man and a great spirit today."

I believe I speak for all fans of Michael Clarke Duncan when I say I felt as if I knew him and think it is a coincidence that he got the part of an angel right here on earth as a character in the green mile. You could see his his spirit come through John Coffee as if he were playing a role of himself. That was when my spirit fell in love with his soul.

I remember Mike when he was just a tall and thin young man. We used to ride home together in our classmate Carl Peterson's car. Chicago was a 12 hour drive from Alcorn so you get to know a person after that kind of drive. He was a sweet, funny and goofy person with a heart of gold. He will be missed by so many and was loved by just as many. Peaceful Rest my friend.

I know Michale from Chicago, Michael lived with one of my daughters for more than two years, they lived in our Family building until Michael left for California. Whenever Mike was doing a new Movie he would always call me to tell me to be sure and go to the movies and to make sure that I bought all of his DVD's and I did.
Michael was a very caring and gentle person, even today children that were maybe six and seven years old when Mike lived here talk about how friendly he was to them and how he use to flex those huge arms and lift them off the ground.
My family grieve for BIG Mike and his family. May God bless you all.

Green Mile and I liked and loved him a lot!
I immediately said what a gentle soul and
really excellent Actor and human being he
was! He really gave a great performance and
truly touched my heart. He is gone much too soon. Sometimes it is hard, really hard,
to understand God's ways. May he rest in
Peace and may God watch over his soul forever and give him much happiness in heaven! He made us all SMILE on earth and

My most since condolences for Mr. Duncans' family, fiancée and friends. My mother had passed at the same young age, the same cause. I know from personal experience that this is not an easy thing to get through - place your full trust in God and He will help you through these most difficult of times. I've always found that it helps to remember that your loved one is in a much better place and - he is no longer suffering. God bless, my prayers are with you all.
